The aim of this unit is to assist students in developing an in-depth understanding of the theoretical and empirical basis for a relational, interpersonal process focus in counselling and psychotherapy. This advanced clinical training provides an integrative treatment approach that draws from humanistic-existential, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic approaches and highlights the use of the process dimension to facilitate change. Students will learn to utilise an understanding of attachment styles, clients’ internal working models and external relational patterns, to provide immediacy interventions and facilitate an effective therapeutic process.
