Professional Development PD and Training Opportunities Microcredentials and Single Subjects Apply Single Units Professional Development Cairnmillar now offers microcredential and single subject enrolments! Enrolling in a microcredential or single subject is a flexible option that allows students to study without committing to a full degree. This option is suitable to those thinking about: taking the first steps towards a new degree*, adding to professional and personal development, considering a career change, and/or want to learn more about a particular topic. Enrolling in a microcredential or single subject allows students to study the same course material as those studying the full degree, with the ability to interact with lecturers and fellow students. Students will attend small class sizes, which promote in depth discussions, allowing students a chance to fully explore the subject areas. Students will also receive access to our online student management system, to our Library and Test Library, and benefit from the on-campus facilities. *Please note, enrolment into a microcredential or single subject, does not guarantee students a place in a Cairnmillar VET or postgraduate program of study. Eligibility criteria and recognition of prior learning restrictions do apply. For all enquiries, please contact to our teams noted at the bottom of this page. More about Microcredentials Microcredentials are short courses that focus on very specific skills and allow you to earn a certificate on completion. They tend to be narrower in focus than longer qualifications, so you can learn what you need to know quickly, without giving up your day job. Microcredentials help people retrain and upgrade their skills to find new employment. Cairnmillar's microcredentials are also stackable, allowing you to qualify for a recognised qualification over a period of time, such as a Certificate or Diploma. Units from each of our VET courses are available for micro-credential enrolment! Students undertake the unit through self-paced online learning across a 10-week period, including one live interactive session (30-90 minutes). This session can be attended online or face-to-face at our Hawthorn East school in Victoria. More about Single Subjects Classes are held 3 hours a week for 12 weeks, over a 14 week period. This includes a 2 week mid-semester break. To view our Academic Calendar, please click here. Students have the option to participate in the unit assessments and receive a statement of results upon completion. This unit of completion may then be recognised as prior learning and count towards a related degree. Students will need to have an attendance rate of 80% and participate in class activities and complete all assessment tasks. Students may otherwise chose to audit the unit, without having the pressure of assessments or exams. Participants will receive a statement of attendance upon completion. This option does not allow participants to apply for credit or recognition of prior learning, if they decide to pursue further study or apply for a course at a later stage. Both options are available until the semester Census date, as listed on our Academic Calendar. Upcoming Enrolment Coursework units from our VET, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, excluding placement and research units, are available for microcredential or single subject enrolment. Click here to learn more about the coursework units available for enrolment. Applications for our February 2023 intake are now open. Admission Criteria For entry into a microcredential or single subject, students are required to submit their expression of interest through the applications portal, with the following supporting documentation: A current curriculum vitae A personal statement of maximum 500 words, outlining what factors have contributed to the application. Suitable applications may be invited to attend a phone interview with members of the School Teaching Faculty, providing students the opportunity to discuss any questions they have about the proposed course of study, ensuring their goals for the subject are met.
