Higher Education Postgraduate Courses Trauma, Loss and Grief Therapy (CAP510) The aim of this subject is to examine the phenomenology of traumatic stress experience, the theories that explain it and various selected approaches to its treatment, including loss- and grief-related aspects. The unit covers cognitive / meaning-making, emotional, somatosensory, and interpersonal aspects of traumatic experience, as well as diagnostic categories and approaches to formulation which are often applied to such experiences. Treatment approaches covered are centred around the self-trauma model (in the textbook), but also touches on emotion-focussed, sensorimotor, and schema therapy approaches.
