This unit emphases the personal and professional competencies and attributes required to practice ethically and legally as a counsellor and psychotherapist. Students will be introduced to different ethical frameworks and ethical decision-making models. The development of ethical mindfulness and an integrated ethical stance is central to this unit. Students will work through case studies and examine a variety of professional situations in class to increase their ethical decision-making skills. Skill development includes understanding of duty of care, knowing how to work with confidentiality, informed consent and practice boundaries as demonstrated by record keeping, placement activities and ongoing coursework.
