Scholarships for Higher Degree by Research studies are usually only awarded to students who have an H1 Honours or equivalent qualification and intend to study on a full-time basis.

Funding support

The Scholarship will be awarded on a similar basis to comparable NHMRC PhD scholarships (see: Postgraduate Scholarships | NHMRC). A stipend (living expenses) of $45,000 pa will be provided for a maximum of three years and six months. In addition, the candidate may draw on a consumables and travel budget of $3,000 pa and a PhD thesis allowance of $2,000 in the final year.

The total funds can be spread over 3.5 years. As the student will be studying full time the stipend does not incur tax. The candidate may work up to one day per week providing this does not interfere with progress towards the studies.
