The Windermere Child Mental Health PhD Scholarship

Background

For sixty years, the Cairnmillar Institute (Cairnmillar) has been delivering training, research and services to support Victorians’ mental health. Cairnmillar is now one of the largest postgraduate psychology trainers in Australia. Cairnmillar is a unique, not-for-profit Institute of Higher Education, a registered RTO and registered charitable ‘health promotion’ organisation. Cairnmillar Institute is expanding and building upon its years of services and education in child psychology and counselling.

The Scholarship

The Windermere Child Mental Health PhD Scholarship will support a suitably qualified health professional pursue a higher degree in the field of child mental health. The candidate must be a registered health practitioner from a relevant discipline.

The Candidate will be part of the Child, Parent and Family Research Centre and supervised by senior members of the Cairnmillar Institute and co-supervisors from other institutions are welcome.

Selection

A condition of the Scholarship is that the candidate must live and study in Victoria but the research project may focus on issues relevant to other areas of Australia. In addition to being a registered health practitioner, the recipient must also be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Scholarships for Higher Degree by Research studies are usually only awarded to students who have an H1 Honours or equivalent qualification and intend to study on a full-time basis.

Funding support

The Scholarship will be awarded on a similar basis to comparable NHMRC PhD scholarships (see: Postgraduate Scholarships | NHMRC). A stipend (living expenses) of $45,000 pa will be provided for a maximum of three years and six months. In addition, the candidate may draw on a consumables and travel budget of $3,000 pa and a PhD thesis allowance of $2,000 in the final year.
