About Anita:

Anita’s work is underpinned by an understanding of attachment theory, a long term mindfulness practice, and training in psychoanalysis and compassion-focused therapies. She brings warmth and humour into the therapy room and welcomes feedback and discussion about therapy as it progresses.

Scope:

While Anita has skills in working with people throughout the lifespan, she mainly sees children aged 4-12 and parents. Anita is experienced in assisting with anxiety, mood, concerns about social functioning, difficult behaviours and issues arising from traumatic experiences. Anita has completed training in Family Based Treatment for eating disorders and is an experienced assessor for Autism Spectrum Disorder using the MIGDAS and ADOS-2.

Background and experience:

Anita is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in public, community and private settings for 15 years. She is qualified to work with adults, adolescents and children. For the last ten years has worked mostly with children, and has completed specialist training focused on working with this age group. She has worked with people from refugee backgrounds, at an Aboriginal Health Service, and at a Child and Adolescent Mental Health service, as well as in private practice. 

Approach:

Anita is passionate about working in collaboration with caregivers to understand their child as an individual, and the underlying reasons for their difficulties. She provides a safe and welcoming space for children to express and understand their concerns, through play and behaviour as well as by verbal means. Anita also enjoys working with adults, whether this is for parenting support or personal therapy.
