About Kate:

Kate is a kind and friendly practitioner, who focuses on building confidence and empowering clients. Kate strives to develop a warm and genuine relationship, and focuses on identifying practical solutions to managing challenges and supporting goals. 

Scope:

Kate primarily offers supervision to provisional psychologists in the clinic, however, at times provides some assessment and counselling services, particularly for assessment of autism and learning difficulties across the lifespan. 

Background and experience:

Kate is an Educational and Developmental psychologist with experience working across the lifespan, with particular skills and experience working with children and adolescents. Having worked for many years in schools, she has skills supporting children and families within the school system. Kate’s previous experiences have focused on psychoeducational assessments for learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental disorders (including Autism, ADHD etc).

Kate has worked in both mainstream and special schools, as well as working and supporting gifted students. Having supported schools with Critical Incidents as a member of the regional Critical Incident Team, she has an extensive understanding of the public education system, the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) and broader government policy issues, following her work as a Professional Practice Leader (PPL) for the Department of Education. 

Kate has been a supervisor of provisional psychologists since 2008 and provides supervision for professionals working in the field. 

Approach:

Kate works with an attachment theory perspective and is client centred in her approach, while considering the context and systems within which a young person is operating. She uses an eclectic approach encompassing (amongst others):

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Mindfulness and Progressive Muscle Relaxation
  • Person-centred
  • Strengths based and solution focused
