Personality explores the psychology of the self. What makes you, you. What makes you different to those around you. This unit explores different theoretical approaches to defining personality, such as biological and trait bases of personality, humanistic perspectives on personality, and psychodynamic theories of personality. The unit considers the role of culture on personality and asks whether personality is a constant phenomenon across culture or is the idea of personality different from culture to culture. This unit also explores the idea of disordered and dysfunctional personality, if such a thing exists, how do we define it, and is personality-based psychopathology culture or era bound? Issues in measuring personality are also discussed.
