Professional Practice Issues (MPP501)

This unit endeavours to build on the foundation knowledge and skills (that students acquired in the Intensive unit) required to practice psychology with a range of client groups, and in ways that are consistent with the standards prescribed by law and the profession’s governing bodies. The unit requires students to examine case studies, to identify the legal / ethical / practice concerns they raise, and to apply the relevant legal authority / Codes / Guidelines in a systematic and reviewable way, while always seeking to maximise client outcomes. The unit also aims to provide a forum where students can develop their insight and self-reflective abilities in ways that enhance their capacity for competent and ethical practice, and ongoing professional development. The final unit objective relates to developing students’ understanding of practice issues such as rapport, record keeping, boundaries, and self disclosure.
