The aim of this unit is to develop and advance student’s clinical skills and professional competence when working in clinical practice.  The unit focuses on characteristics of the therapist and client, and the influence of these on the therapeutic relationship, the form of therapy selected and the outcomes of therapy.  There is an emphasis on therapeutic work across context, including working with individuals, groups, couples, those from diverse backgrounds, and across the lifespan.  The Unit also introduces a range of therapeutic approaches, including Interpersonal Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy, with these considered in relation to therapist and client characteristics and, where appropriate, contextual factor
