The long term and adverse effects of trauma on the development of self and overall psychological functioning are recognised as significant contributors to clinical problems presented in counselling. In this unit, students will learn about the neurobiology of trauma, how to recognise different types of trauma and apply safe assessment and counselling interventions that follow the principles recovery-oriented practice and guidelines of trauma-informed counselling.
